Get the Cash Discount for Gas While Paying with a Credit Card & Get 5% Cash Back or 5x Points

Have you noticed this when filling up your car at the gas station?

If you are like me, you probably value miles & points too much to go with the cash option. If your car takes 20 gallons each time, the cash discount saves you $1; but if you do the math, 5 cents per gallon represent 1.3% in savings. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could get that cash discount AND use our credit card of choice to maximize miles & points?

Chase Ink Card – Your “Secret Weapon” to Earning 5% or 5x for Everyday Spending

**Giveaway of two invitation codes for Chase Ink – bonus points after first purchase with no minimum spend required!**

To get that 5% cash back or 5x Chase Ultimate Rewards (UR) points I talked about yesterday, you need a Chase Ink card (Bold for $95, or Classic/Cash for free). If you opt for the free Ink card, you will ALSO need to have a Chase Sapphire Preferred card in order to turn those points into free travel.

Would You Like to Receive 5% Cash Back (or 5x Points) on Everything You Buy?

A few weeks ago, I wrote about how you could use your Chase Freedom Card to get 5% cash back for your purchases at Walmart & Target. Recently, I also did a follow-up post on what credit cards you might need to maximize the return on your everyday purchases.

A couple of days after I wrote the Walmart post, I updated it with my own experience of purchasing a $500 VISA gift card at my local grocery store and then using it to buy gas. If you don’t mind the trouble of buying and using a prepaid gift card, you will be on your way to earning 5% (5x points) for almost all your purchases. [I started this post over the weekend, but today Frequent Miler posted his new discovery, and I will go over his strategy later in the post, too, for those of you interested.]

Alert: Chase Freedom Card, $350 Cash-back Bonus Offer

Update (11:45am PST, April 5, 2012): The $350 Chase Freedom offer link is no longer available for new applications.

Update (April 13, 2012): The 50,000 Chase Sapphire Preferred offer link is no longer available for new applications. Check out MillionMileSecrets’ Credit Cards Page for latest offers.

Right after Gary @ViewFromTheWing pointed out how fast Chase had been pulling their higher-than-usual bonus offers, I saw a link posted by a Twitter friend (Thanks, Michael Shimada!) introducing a $350 cash-back offer for signing up for the Chase Freedom card.

In my beginner series, I briefly talked about the benefits of having a combination of the Chase Freedom card and the Chase Sapphire Preferred or the Chase Ink Bold card. The 50,000-point sign-up bonus for the Chase Sapphire Preferred VISA card officially expired yesterday, but you can still get the bonus through this application link (for the MasterCard version).

Chase allows one personal and one business card application on the same day, so if you are interested in getting a combo today, you can apply for the Ink Bold card through MillionMileSecrets’ link.
