3 Useful Free Mobile Apps for Paris (and Many Other Major Cities) + Free WiFi in Paris

Heading to Paris (or another major European city) soon and have an iPod Touch, iPad, iPhone, or Android device? Then you might want to test out the following few FREE apps, all of which work offline and can make your visit more enjoyable and efficient. In addition, you will also find out how and where to get free WiFi in Paris at the end of the post.

#1. MétrO

Punch in your starting point and your destination, this app tells you exactly where to get off the train and/or make your metro connections. This app will save you a lot of map-studying time.

#2. Rick Steves’ Audio Europe

When we visited Italy in 2011, we downloaded Rick Steves’ free audio tours onto our iPod Touches.

This time around, Rick Steves developed a free app, which includes the audio tours, transcripts of the tours, and tour maps.

#3. tripadvisor Offline City Guides

We used this app to find a few good restaurants in Paris.

#4. Free WiFi in Paris

We never needed WiFi while running around Paris, but you can check out this site for 250+ free public WiFi spots in the city.

  • Thanks for a very useful info… I do miss the old days when we had to read the paper map and stopped to ask local people for the direction sometimes too.

  • Paul De Costa Rica

Alright…Mr. TrvelByPoints….thank you for the info

Thank you for posting on these useful travel apps. I travel all over the world for my job at DISH, and I could always use a new app to make life abroad a little easier. I might check out Metro and TripAdvisor Offline City Guides the next time I am in Europe. I would like to suggest my favorite travel app called DISH Anywhere. With it I can stream live TV or DVR recordings to my phone; it is a great way for me to stay on top of my favorite baseball teams, even when I am out of the country.
