Using CheckInToMyFlight.com for Southwest Flights
Some of you may well be aware of Southwest’s “EarlyBird Check-in,” which costs $10 for each one-way trip but gives you a 36-hour check-in.
This past weekend, I saw and shared a tweet from MileWise that introduced a nifty tool for Southwest flyers. CheckInToMyFlight (developed by Nikil, a Stanford CS student) automatically checks you into your scheduled flights 24 hours in advance so that you could get a Group A boarding pass.
The key to using this tool effectively is to enter the correct time of your scheduled flights. If you have a round trip ticket booked under the same confirmation code, make sure you enter your information twice – one for the outbound and one for the inbound. Your assigned boarding numbers will be emailed to you as soon as you are automatically checked in. You will still need to print out your boarding passes at home/work or at the airport.
I tested the service out for our return flight from San Jose, CA this past weekend and it worked flawlessly. TravelWhimsy and I had the whole first row bulkhead seats to ourselves on a relatively full flight! As always, do your own due diligence and decide for yourself whether you’d feel comfortable giving out your personal information to a third-party web site.
P.S. Have you flown through the San Jose airport (SJC) or rented a car there before? It was our first time and we loved it! Fast, convenient, new, and efficient (no shuttle needed). If you have a choice between SFO and SJC, go with SJC. There are individual leather sofas with power outlets (better than those at the airport lounges) and those useful inserts to the armrest of the chairs at every gate. I couldn’t help but take a picture, and hope that other airports will soon start to adopt this “high-tech” addition.
